We started working with Pablo Peppino in 2013 but didn't meet him in person until this past October, shortly before New York Comic Con. In an attempt to bolster our blog content, we asked him to do an interview with us. He gladly obliged.
1. Tell us a little about yourself.
I'm from Argentina. I'm 37 years old and I started to draw because I thought I was good at it and it'll be easy. That was the most stupid thing I've ever said.
Art has been the most challenging but gratification thing I attempted in my life.
2. How did you get into sequential art?
I was studying high arts at the university but the teachers weren't good enough, so I started to look around and I discovered a workshop focused on comic books. There I found a great group of people and a brilliant teacher.
3. Who would you say your major influences are?
Katsuhiro Otomo, Moebius and Marcelo Frusin.
4. What tools do you use to work?
Traditional tools. 2B pencils, microns, etc. I go digital when I'm coloring something.
4a. Care to share what your workspace looks like?
5. From getting a comic script to a completed inked page, what's your artistic process look like?
Research - sketch - let the page rest and moving forward on the next one - go back and make corrections - clean the pencils and finally ink it. Something like this.
6. Skies of Fire has many different creatives working on it. What has the collaboration process been like?
It's great. We can debate on many things with the result of a strong book and I also have a lot of freedom to do my part the best I can.
7. You recently moved from Rosario, Argentina to Valencia, Spain. What's the transition been like?
Stressing but pretty interesting. Changes always are a great artistic fuel.
8. You're stuck on a desert island with only a backpack with five things in it. What are they?
1 - Mjölnir
2 - Skíðblaðnir
3 - Gleipnir
4/5 - Hugin and Munin
9. Hobbies? What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to swim, to read, watching movies, dancing, traveling and worship Cthulhu.
10. Some have alleged you bear a striking resemblance to Edward Norton. Care to comment?
