Hi Mythopoeians! It's Kay and with Valentine’s Day coming up, I thought it would be a good chance to share some two (or-more) player games with everyone! Up north where I am, snow is on the ground and the cold weather means playing games inside with people I love is perfectly justifiable. Whether the person is someone you’re romantically partnered with or just a friend, these games are great chances to spend a nice night together!
Star Crossed
Designed by Alex Roberts with gorgeous illustrations by Jess Fink, Star Crossed is a two player game. Players create characters who are deeply attracted to each other but have a strong reason to resist their feelings. It’s a lovely little game that lets players explore complicated relationships and tension while still getting the catharsis of a happy ending! I think the variety of sources that the tension between your characters can really increase someone's ability to play the game over and over. Plus the art is beautiful - which is always a plus when getting a new game!
The Love Balloon
Created by Ray Chou and Vincezo Ferriero and art by Pablo Peppino and Alexandru Bucur, The Love Balloon is a light-hearted role-playing game for 2-6 players, inspired by the charming yet cheeky sitcoms of the late 70s and early 80s, like The Love Boat and Three’s Company. Players create characters who are guests aboard the magical Love Balloon, a ship known for its whimsical and romantic voyages. I think The Love Balloon is charming in its retro design and inspiration without limiting players to anything relating to retro sensibilities.
Hedgewitch Tales
Hedgewitch Tales is a collaborative two-player game about kindness, healing, and magical cures. One player takes on the role of the Hedgewitch, a warm-hearted figure offering unique remedies for both ordinary and peculiar ailments. The other player portrays a series of Wanderers who seek help from the Hedgewitch for their personal Woes, such as a broken foot, a tired heart, or a lost family. While not strictly romantically oriented, Hedgewitch Tales is a whimsical breath of fresh air that is lighthearted and full of magic! Regardless of who you’re playing with, I think anyone can find joy in this delightful little game.
The World Through Your Eyes
The World Through Your Eyes is a two-player role-playing game about exploring the stories of two vastly different worlds through the eyes of two soulmates. Whether played romantically or platonically, the game focuses on the deep connection between the characters despite their contrasting backgrounds. This game is a lovely look into the longing for a special kind of connection some people feel. I love the simplicity of this game, it’s straightforward and easy to play.
Hopefully for Valentine's weekend you get the chance to curl up with a good game and a good friend to enjoy the season!
Happy gaming from Kay!!!
