"Koriko: A Magical Year" is a contemplative solo journaling game that explores the life of a teenage witch spending a year in the distant and unfamiliar city Koriko.

Inspired by "Kiki's Delivery Service" (both the Studio Ghibli film and Eiko Kadono's novel), players need not have prior tabletop roleplaying experience to explore the unknown as a young witch. If you are, or have ever been, a teenager, have heard of witches, and have an inkling of interest in urban exploration, Koriko has wonders for you. Players need: The Game Text (for knowing how to play), a Journal (for tracking their memories, joys, questions, mistakes, answers, anxieties, and more), a deck of Tarot Cards (The Unknown is an ever-present Friend for a Witch), 6 sided dice (for Stacking [A Core Mechanic]).

Play begins while you forge a witch from nothing, pretend, and the book. Koriko awaits! A vast and wonderful city decided and designed by you. Koriko might be a cramped, industrialized, sprawl colored by the scent of sweat and smoke. Koriko might be a massive tree whose roots reach the depths of the earth and whose branches are said to scrape the stars. Koriko might be identical to a city you already know. Koriko is a place made by you using the book to guide creation.

Once we know about your new home for the year, it's time to explore, and learn, and grow, and be a teenager full of vim, vigor, and insecurities. This is done by drawing cards from the deck related to prompts in order to introduce new events and wrinkles to your tale. When things get dramatic or difficult, you'll stack dice. Eventually the Tower will get precarious and potentially perilous. Koriko is played out over the course of 6 volumes. After each volume you'll take a moment to rest and reflect, maybe even write a letter home to your mentor. When Winter comes, you'll face your biggest decision yet: will you remain in Koriko, assuming the mantle of Resident Witch, will you return Home changed and new, or do further adventures echo in your mind and heart?
